Oooo, this is an exciting new cheese pairing development! Have you ever had membrillo? Well, that traditional Spanish cheese pairing is made from quince, which is somewhere between an apple, a pear, and a rock (they’re really hard…). Well, crabapples are also a stubbornly hard, bitter fruit that needs some coaxing into palatability! So upon first tasting V. Smiley’s Crabapple and Rosehip Jam, we were psyched to find that it was texturally similar to membrillo with about half the sweetness, a big dose of tartness, and floral notes thanks to the rosehips! Much like membrillo, this jam pairs incredibly well with the lusciousness of sheep’s milk cheeses!
